Carved from the erstwhile State of Assam, Meghalaya became a full fledged State on January 21,1972. Bounded on the North and East by Assam and on the South and West by Bangladesh, Meghalaya is spread over an area of 22, 429 square kilometres, and lies between 20.1° N and 26.5° N latitude and 85.49 °E and 92.52 °E longitude. Meghalaya, of Scottish scenery and Indian charm is a beautiful state nestled amid Assam and Bangladesh. Meghalaya, literally meaning "Abode of the Clouds" takes distinction of being among the wettest places on earth. The Cherrapunji belt receives the highest rainfall in the world. Home to an extraordinary diversity of peoples, the Khasi, Jantia and Garo tribes, Meghalaya is one of the most picturesque states of India, which serves as an ideal gateway for people in search of beauty and tranquility. While Garos migrated from Tibet, the Khasis and Jaintias are among the earliest ethnic groups in the Indian subcontinent. Khasis are known for being one of the few matriarchal societies surviving in the world today.

This lake came into existence in 1965, after the Umiam Umtru Hydro Electric Power Project (the first hydroelectricity venture in the northeast) was started. Covering a vast area of 10 sq. km, this large lake has rightly been termed as Barapani (big water) by locals. The lake is encompassed by sprawling meadows and undulating hills that are carpeted with lush greenery. Water complex offers a vast range of activities, which include row boats, paddle boats, cruise boats, sailing boats, water scooters and speed boats. The exquisite historical man made lake got another bonus when a musical fountain was installed by the Assam Rifles who wanted to dedicate this as a sign of goodwill and friendship towards the peace loving people of the State. Assam Rifles Director General, Lt. H.S. Konwar handed over the Melody fountain to the C.M. of the State as a gesture of friendliness and cooperation in building great understanding between the paramilitary force and the civilians. The installation of this new fountain will help to enhance and attract more visitors is worth visiting.

Elephant Falls is an enchanting waterfall that forms an integral part of the tourism circuit in Shillong. This waterfall was originally named Kshaid Lai Pateng Khohsiew, which means a three-step waterfall in local parlance. Due to its difficult pronunciation, the British named the cascade as the Elephant Falls. The new name was derived from a huge rock at the site that resembled an elephant in appearance. Although this rock was destroyed in an earthquake that occurred towards the end of the 19th century, the name stayed.

  • By Air:
Meghalaya does not have any airport. The nearest airport is at Guwahati, which is only 128kms from Shillong the capital city of Meghalaya. A helicopter service operates betweenGuwahati, Shillong (30 min) and Tura (60 min), which is convenient and economical. Some helicopters land at upper Shillong and others at Umroi Helipad in the downtown.
  • By Rail:
Meghalaya does not have any train service. The nearest and railway station is inGuwahati. TMeghalaya has very convenient road connection with Guwahati throughout the year.
  • By Road:
Road Network in the state is quite efficient and covers the state conveniently. National Highway 40 is an all-weather road running through the state. The road connects Shillong with Guwahati, which in turn is connected to other major cities in rest of the country.

Delhi, a true cosmopolitan city with diversified culture is the capital of the world’s largest democracy, India. Known as Indraprastha in ancient times, Delhi has been wooed by rulers, attracted invaders and has been build and destroyed several times. The spectacular architecture of Delhi city is evident through its antique monuments. This city witnesses an interesting blend of diverse cultures (some even 5000 years old).
Delhi has always had a mysterious eternity, the city having witnessed empires rise to glory and fall to ashes. The contemporary Delhi is a culmination of seven cities built by different emperors. Ruins of this ancient city are found even today and now these are converted to some major tourist attractions. India Gate is a memorial raised in honor of the Indian soldiers who died during the Afghan wars and World War I. 1 the names of the soldiers who died in these wars are inscribed on the walls. The cenotaph (or shrine) in the middle is constructed with black marble and depicts a rifle placed on its barrel, crested by a soldier's helmet.

The Qutub Minar is located in Qutb complex, Mehrauli in South Delhi. It was built byQutub-ud-din Aibak of the Slave Dynasty, who took possession of Delhi in 1206. It is a fluted red sandstone tower, which tapers up to a height of 72.5 meters and is covered with intricate carvings and verses from the Qur'an.

Revamp of IGI Airport is underway to improve its infrastructure, passenger capacity and efficiency.A secondary airport is in planning stages and was to come up in Greater Noida, the project has been shelved as of now.
  • By Rail:
Rail based transport in the city has started to gain popularity with the introduction of Delhi Metro. Ring-Railway, which runs parallel to the Ring-Road system is another rail-based intra-city transport facility in Delhi.
  • By Road:
Transportation is dependent upon roads and railways, including rapid transit systems like Delhi Metro. Roads in Delhi are maintained by Municipal Corporation of Delhi (MCD), New Delhi MunicipalCouncil (NDMC), Delhi Cantonment Board (DCB), Public Works Department (PWD) and Delhi Development Authority (DDA). At 1749 km of road length per 100 km², Delhi has one of the highest road densities in India. Major roadways include the Ring Road and the Outer Ring Road, which had a traffic density of 110,000 vehicles per day in 2001. Total road length of Delhi was 28,508 km including 388 km of National Highways. Major road-based public transport facilities in Delhi are provided by DTC buses, auto-rickshaws taxi sand cycle-rickshaws.

      • JODHPUR:

      Associated with the low-legged Shekhawati chair , this region is known for wood carving, metal utensils, made -as-old furniture, and tie-dye fabrics.
      • UDAIPUR:
      One of the principal shopping zones outside Jaipur, here are a myriad shops with paintings of the miniature and pichwai variety, as terracotta tables and plaques. There are also locally dyed fabrics and textiles , embroideries , wooden toys , white metal objects d'art , silver enamel artefacts, and image of Krishna in the Nathdwara style.

      Air transport is available for Rajasthan. The one and only international airport of the state is located in Jaipur, the capital city of this state. Another international airport close to this state is Delhi, about 260 km away. The state has several domestic airports at Udaipur, Jodhpur and Jaisalmer. Only three off shore flights land at Jaipur Airport. These come from Muscat, Dubai and Sharjah.
      • By Rail
      Rail Transport is well established in this state. Even some of the remote areas are well served by this mode of transportation. Considered to be an affordable means of transport, majority of people prefer traveling from train. Major cities and several towns of this state are well connected through rail transport.       Amongst all the Jain temples, Palitana Jain mandir are considered to be the most sacred.       The Somnath Temple represents one of the 12 Jyotirlingas of Lord Shiva and refers to the protector of Moon God. The temple is situated in Prabhas Kshetra near Veraval. The temple has been destroyed and reconstructed six times and thus, it is known as 'The Shrine Eternal'.
